    Quest invted local officials for a morning meeting on Thursday May 10.  The purpose was to allow local officials to visit Quest Charter Academy to see of the great things that are going on daily.  We thank all of the guests for coming…we are very proud of our hard work and accomplishments.  During the meeting, the guests met the two State of Illinois science fair participants and the writing contest winners for Concept Schools.  Those attending included:  Mary Ardapple, Peoria County Board member; Mayor Jim Ardis, City of Peoria; Brian Elsasser, Peoria County Board member; Laurie Dusyzynski from State Representative Jehand Gordon-Booth’s office; Brad Harding, Peoria County Board member, Illinois State Senator Darin LaHood; Linda Daley, legislative aid to State Representative David Leitch; Tom O’Neill, Chairman of the Peoria County Board, Nate Hurn, District Office Manager & Veterans Policy Advisor, Congressman Aaron Schock’s office; Lynn Scott Pearson, Peoria County Board member; and Chuck Weaver, Peoria City Councilman  at-large.

    The second annual Gators Got Talent Show was held on Thursday May 10.  The acts included singing, dance, step dance, hoola hoop, drama, and drums.  The Quest Student Council sponsored the event.  Auditions were held one month ago and then the practicing began!  The PTO sponsored a spaghetti dinner and Silen Auction prior to the Talent Show.

    Quest hosted the second annual Career Fair on Friday May 11.  We are very grateful for the many participants from our community who volunteered their time to provide information to our students.  Students prepared in the Language Arts classes by studying the different Career Strands and focusing on questions to ask.  Students learned about the education needed, skills needed, and what a typical day is like in a chosen field.  We thank all of our participants, including;  Alzheimer’s Asssoc, ATS, Big Hollow Animal Hospital, Bradley University Communications Dept, Bradley University Education Dept, Caterpillar, Inc., Caterpillar, Inc. Think Big, CEFCU, City of Chillicothe, City of Peoria, Coldwell Banker Honig Bell,  Davis Insurance Agency, Dewberry, Heart of Illinois United Way, Heartland Partnership, Illinois Central College, Illinois Procurement & Technical Assistance, Junior Achievement of Central Illinois, Knapp Johnson Funeral Home, Peoria County Assistant States Attorney office, Peoria Fire Dept., Peoria City Police,  Peoria Journal Star, PPS 150, Todd Davis Insurance Agency, TRICON, Tri-County Urban League, University of Illinois Medical School, USDA.

    All students had a picnic lunch on the side lawn during the day.

    The Ivy League students spent the day on April 18 on the Bradley University campus experiencing college academics and dorm life.  The events of this day were coordinated by the College of Engineering and Technology and the STEM Center (special thanks to Mrs. Kathy Cobb and Mr. Dick Greene for coordinating the events of the day).  Students were divided into small groups to do many hands-on activities including: extracting DNA from strawberries, learn how to convert chemical energy into electrical energy by observing a miniature power plant in operation, hands-on demonstration of the wind tunnel to show lift and drag, rotating through four nursing activity stations to show safe care for patients.  The Society of Women Engineers had the students build a boat out of the materials provided to see which team could make their designed boat go the farthest in a water table.  Students had lunch in  the Geisert dorm cafeteria.  The buffet was a BIG hit for all of the students to see what food is like in a dorm. Student engineers joined the Quest students for lunch to discuss what their chosen field of study is all about.  The Bradley students had a lot of good thoughts for our students.  Following lunch, student engineers provided a tour of the campus and returned the Quest students to their scheduled afternoon activities.   Students ended the day at the 20th Annual Student Scholarship Exposition to gather ideas for the next science fair season at Quest.  Click here for video from Channel 25

    • ]]>     Forms for the CityLink 2012 Sun&Fun Bus Pass program are being sent home this week.  ALL applications for this program are due back to the advisory teachers by Friday May 11.

    All students at Quest will either visit the Hult Education Center or have a speaker from the Center come to their classroom during the week of May 21.  Permission slips will go home on Monday May 14 for students to participate.  Click on the Parent Information Link from the main page of the school webpage to view each grade level’s curriculum.

    CONGRATULATIONS to Nathaniel and Savana (both 8th graders) for advancing on to the Illinois State Science Fair Finals in Champaign on Saturday May 5.  Nathaniel received a Best in Show for Math for the middle school division and a gold medal.  Savana received a silver medal.  Nathaniel’s project was on Password Security and the math behind breaking into someone’s password.  Savana researched the benefits of eggs vs. substitute eggs.

    CONGRATULATIONS to three students from the Quest track team who are advancing on to the State finals to be held this coming weekend.  They are seventh graders Jada, Audrey, and Jalen.  Jada qualified for 110m Dash, Audrey qualified for the 110m Hurdles, and Jalen qualified for the High Jump.  Best of luck to them and their coaches.

    CONGRATULATIONS to the Quest Math Team that traveled to Chicago on Saturday April 28 to participate in the annual Math Olympics competition sponsored by Concept Schools Inc.  Over 25 schools within the Concept network participated in this annual event.  This team was chosen from the top finalists from Quest in the Illinois Math League competition earlier this school year.  The team is coached by Mrs. Scott and Ms. Jordan.

    Ciara (5th grade) received the fifth highest score in all fifth grade students participating.

    Noah (6th grade) received a second place in the sixth grade catergory with Kyia (6th grade) receiving an Honorable Mention.

    Andrew (7th grade) and Mikayla (7th grade) finished 6th and 7th place respectively.  James (7th grade) received an Honorable Mention.

    Nathaniel (8th grade) finished 8th place in the 8th grade category and Elijah (8th grade) and Lucas (8th grade) received Honorable Mentions.

    CONGRATULATIONS to fifth grade students Ciara and Randy who placed first and second in the third to fifth grade division, in the annual Concept Schools sponsored writing contest. Students participated from all of the 27 Concept sponsored schools in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.  Additionally fifth grade students Jaquarius, Rue, and Tomeisha were named finalists.  Ciara will be receiving a $100 gift certificate and Randy will receive a $50 gift certificate.  We are VERY PROUD of their writing and great efforts.
